It was a lovely day and the weather was completely awesome. I was enjoying the day watching the television and sipping hot coffee. As I was surfing through the channels, I was stopped by a headline on a news channel stating “2 blasts hit Bangalore”. Suddenly, there was darkness in front of my eyes and I immediately reacted by dialing my husband’s mobile number. By the grace of God everything was fine. But one cannot deny the mental trauma with which one suffers even at a glance of such news. Be it Bangalore or any other city of India, bomb blasts have become a regular happening. The news of such happenings jeopardizes the entire nation in one go. The people all over the world, crowd in front of TV screens and criticize these inhuman acts and the government as well.
But are we not responsible ?
Have we ever taken a step for this cause? How many times when we see an unidentified object in our surroundings we make an effort to call up the police? Do we cooperate with the security when we visit any mall or other public place? Do we have an understanding of how to react in these panicking situations? The questions are endless but the answer is NO.
We know that we can not avoid these cruel situations and we are not safe anywhere. However, it’s the duty of all of us, as true and educated citizens of India to behave in a way, whereby we can minimize the effects of such happenings.
So lets follow some DOs
Love your place; love your surroundings. Keep a track of things over there. Report the police immediately if you find something suspicious.
Educate yourself about the place you plan to visit. Enquire for the safety exits in case of mishaps.
Cooperate with the security guards for checking; be it a mall or road or airport. They are ensuring your safety only.
Talk to the children and educate them how to act if such happening takes place.
Be handy of list of important telephone nos. like police, hospitals and fire station.
And last but not the least do not panic...and lend a helping hand to all those who are in need.

First of all, appreciate your efforts that you’ve made on writing for the cause….
While I could sense the serenity in your thoughts while reading the article, I however will not completely agree to what has been said.
Undoubtedly, the bottom line is ‘It’s my life, I need to take care of it’ , but then if the story is as simple as this, I would urge a complete change in our education system. Lets everyone join army school where we can start learning the self-defense tactics in early years. Instead of games regular studies, let’s take of subjects like ‘Bomb-Identification’, ‘Crisis management’ etc. lets everyone grow as an army men rather a civilian.
Yes I know this stupid, { in-fact it is }.
My point is that managing a nation requires to have a system, and in a system each and every individual/community has a role to play. We can no doubt learn the skills of a different role but cannot change places. Means the primary responsibility to tackle terror lies in hand of government, security forces, police and so forth….so while we can lend a helping hand by becoming an ‘aware citizen’, we can never swap roles. And if we do….what the hell are they getting paid for !
So message to our ministers, leaders, CBI, IB (Intelligence Dept)…”STOP TALKING AND START DOING”
