Are you doing the don’ts of Social Media Marketing?

Have you been trying hard to make yourself heard? Have you tried all social media marketing tactics, but still not got the results? Are you jealous to see your competitors making good money from SMM?

Then may be you are operating a right tool in a wrong way. Just ensure you are not doing the below given Don’ts of Social Media Marketing.

1. Don’t wear the same old hat- Times have changed and so it’s the time to put on your new thinking hats and come out with innovative ideas whereby you can engage your readers through their responses. The traditional practices such as reports and statements do not work well now. The more the involvement, the better are the results. Also, ensure your target audiences have a room to express themselves. Putting up press releases and statements has become obsolete – avoid them. A recent example of Barack Obama’s election campaign illustrates how social media marketing can be effective if one thinks innovatively. Participation must not be for just being a part of social media rather it should be taken as a road to achievement.

2. Don’t hurry, as it gives worry- Baby steps if taken can make you progress well rather than your hurried moves. Analyze your surroundings first and then get into action. The mantra here is “slow and steady wins the race”. Create your network, build trust and then play gimmicks. The more you know your audience, the more impact you make. Some people tend to forget that they are marketing socially. Always remember, it’s different…

3. Don’t overdo salesmanship- Shouting to make yourself heard is a not a good practice. Promotion should be a criterion but before you take that leap, check your content. An interesting and genuine content will promote itself. Delivering authentic content is the key here. Being too salsey will make you a spammer which can shaken you social media reputation.

4. Don’t Hit and run - Act like a host and not a guest –that is a secret to success in social media marketing. Once you have put your content on a networking site, give your time in order to see it blossom. Nurture your content by making acquaintances, giving your valuable and honest comments to others. Your participation will speak about your existence and will gather target audience for you. Participate in various social media sites such as video sharing sites like Youtube and Dailymotion; social networking sites like Orkut and Facebook; social media sites like Digg and reddit; and other image sharing and book marking sites. All these sites facilitate content sharing, link making, networking and hence reputation building.

5. Don’t Disrespect the community-One’s wish to over shine, sometimes takes him to complete blackout. Respect others in the group. Try to learn what people are looking for, what they want and then strategize yourself. Listening is a key here that will enable to open many locks. Take criticisms and owe them if you are wrong.

Remember social media marketing is not just about getting, it is also about giving.
Give your best and you definitely will get the best.
